About me

I am a Mortimer Spiegelman Postdoctoral Fellow at the Center for Population and Development Studies at Harvard University. My research interests center on new and persistent dimensions of inequality in sub-Saharan Africa and their relationships to key demographic events. I study labor market stratification in light of the Education for All (EFA) movement, asking if and how inequality gets regulated within local communities. I am especially interested in the subjective dimension of inequality – how individuals perceive their social positions – and how these perceptions inform women's reproductive health, optimism, and social mobility. My published work has appeared in the American Sociological Review and Social Science and Medicine.
